Gloucester Tall Ships Festival 2011

Huge crowds thronged the docks over the weekend 26-28 August 2011 to see five tall ships, other smaller craft and a wide range of land based entertainment. This page features the arrival of four of the tall ships on the Friday and a selection of scenes during the main festival on Saturday and Sunday.

Schooner Kathleen & May turned in the Main Basin and moored on the East Quay.

Brig Phoenix entered the Main Basin and turned to moor on the East Quay behind Kathleen & May.

Schooner Johanna Lucretia came across to moor on the West Quay.

Ketch Irene came very close to putting her bowsprit through a window of the West Quay flats.

Visitors were able to go aboard each of the tall ships to get a closer view of the working equipment.

A rowing boat manned by Nelson's sailors attacked the Phoenix, the crew of which fired back.

Children had a great time paddling canoes in the Barge Arm.

Sea Cadets practiced sculling over the stern and were timed over a measured distance.
