Royal Visit 2009

Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were welcomed by huge crowds when they visited Gloucester Docks on board two Royal Navy patrol boats on 23 October 2009.

The Queen was on the stern deck of HMS Express, accompanied by representatives of the Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company who were pointing out the changing face of Gloucester’s waterfront. The Duke followed behind on the bridge of HMS Exploit. As the two vessels came through Llanthony Bridge and turned in the Main Basin, the royal visitors were greeted by waving flags and loud cheers from the assembled multitude. Then the vessels returned through Llanthony Bridge and moored at the nearby Llanthony Quay, where the royal couple went ashore to have lunch at the Gloucestershire College.
