Bank Holiday Weekend 2009

The late May bank holiday weekend opened a new chapter in the story of the docks as a leisure destination. Thousands of people combined a visit to the recently opened designer outlet centre with an exploration of the historic docks area.

High Orchard St was busy with bargain hunters visiting the new designer outlet centre.

Pedestrians had free run of the newly paved Llanthony Rd.

Thousands walked past the Barge Arm flats towards the Ferris Wheel, and many continued into town.

The Ferris Wheel did good business, and many visitors had to wait their turn in the queue.

A helicopter from HMS Gloucester dropped in on Saturday, and visitors were able to climb inside.

Local sea cadets were active on Sunday, practicing pulling and motor boat handling.

A variety of boats spent the weekend in the Main Basin for the annual Three Clubs Regatta.

The regatta included a series of rowing races culminating in a tug-of-war.
